CONSERVATION IN SITU
We protect nature where it's born
IN FEW WORDS.
In-situ conservation is an integral part of our mission: in-situ actions arise as a fundamental element of the integrated species conservation strategy where scientific research implements all possible methodologies to expand knowledge in order to adopt and validate policies to protect biodiversity, sustainability, and the human-nature balance. Conservation education also offers fundamental support for this purpose by raising awareness both among local populations, in the places of origin of in-situ projects, and citizens in Italy by motivating them to actively support Nature conservation.

Location: Europe, Africa and Seychelles
-
Projects: protect species directly in their habitats of origin (in situ conservation), and through programs in controlled environments (ex situ). We collaborate with local and international agencies, communities and research centers to implement effective and shared strategies. Our actions include knowledge exchange, reintroduction into the wild of individuals born and bred in zoos, scientific research on animal welfare and the species' native environment, environmental awareness of the different stakeholders involved in the projects, and involvement in them of different local communities.
-
Goals:
-
Reintroduce individuals born in a controlled environment back into the wild
-
Take action against poaching in support of biodiversity
-
Conserve the genetic heritage of endangered species
-
Strengthen sustainable coexistence between humans and nature
-
-
Activities:
-
Scientific research on the environment, genetics and animal welfare
-
Monitoring of released individuals
-
Education, scientific training and awareness of local populations
-
Collaboration with local agencies and communities

THE ROLE OF ZOOLOGICAL STRUCTURES FOR THECONSERVATION OF SPECIES IN THE NATURE.
Conservation today represents an important role of zoological structures.
