BEE
ZOOM
Sector for the protection of pollinators
IN A FEW WORDS .
-
Location: Piedmont and Botswana
-
Project: "Bee ZOOM" protects biodiversity through the protection of pollinators, their monitoring, and the renaturalization of degraded areas to find solutions to encourage the establishment of stable populations of these insects responsible for the valuable pollination service. The data collected will enrich the information in a larger continental-scale monitoring network called the European Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (eBMS), a large database that includes all European transects.
-
Goals:
-
Encourage the arrival, reproduction and permanence of pollinating insects to promote ecosystem services and, consequently, the recovery of damaged habitats
-
Recover or renaturalize areas that are in poor condition and degraded
-
Promoting more sustainable use of natural resources through the practice of beekeeping, creating extra profit for families in the long run and the restoration of degraded areas through the planting of local species.
-
Implementation of biodiversity training and education courses
-
-
Activities:
-
Census and monitoring of the main taxa of wild pollinators
-
Research activities
-
Seeding and planting of native plant species in different areas on the territory and creating nesting sites
